Horseback Riding Lessons
|
Kevin has forty-five years of teaching and coaching experience. He has trained riders of all ages and backgrounds, in every conceivable context, from the wide-open spaces of Texas to the bustling indoor arena at the famed Claremont Stable on Manhattan's Upper West Side, adjacent to Central Park. Kevin has been both privately retained, and he owned and operated one of the largest riding schools in California. He has worked with therapeutic programs, coaching riders with a wide variety of emotional, physical and psychological challenges, from autism to addiction to P.T.S.D. His main interest and success has been preparing riders for competition in the Jumper Ring. Kevin believes it is in Stadium Jumping that the highest form of the sport, and all its components, are fully expressed.
At Kevin McGinn Stables, we understand that there has to be an introduction to this exciting world, a place to begin to learn how to horseback ride. Taking his model, the idea of a traditional riding school, Kevin McGinn has acquired lesson horses perfectly suited to work with riding school students. Lesson horses are used to introduce students to basic flatwork (or dressage) to the thrill of hunter, jumper and combined training. This is made possible through the strong basic foundation of hunt seat equitation that quickly takes a beginning rider to an advanced student level, and to their first horse show!
Kevin is especially excited to meet with students that have a background in Western riding, as the emphasis in Western riding is often based on speed-turning competition and FUN, all essential components of a show jumping competitor.
The idea of the traditional riding school, mixed with the individualized approach, can take someone who wishes to "test the waters” before leaping in and purchasing a horse.
Kevin began his work on the West coast as a co-owner of Traditional Equitation School in Burbank, Los Angeles' largest equestrian facility. Teaching both beginners and advanced students, children's and adult riding lessons, he spent time establishing students correctly so they could go as far as their talents and time could take them. He would often counsel new students on the importance of safety first, as he often has been heard to say, "You don't teach three-hundred students per week, and not learn how to size up a horse and rider in a New York second!”
Kevin is truly thrilled to be based at Ever Wood Stables, located at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Why is the Los Angeles Equestrian Center location so terrific? First, it is just minutes away from Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Glendale, Los Feliz, and all the major movie studios. More important is the extensive roster of horse shows that take place on site, including:
- Full calender of seven Gold Coast (A/B) rated series.
- Prestigious list of AA shows such as the Memorial Day Classic, Los Angeles Jumping Festival, and Los Angeles National Horse Show.
- Year-End AA Finals, including the Onandarka Medal Final and the Prestigious USEF Medal Final (arguably the most demanding Junior Final on the West Coast).
